Our Story

Our Five Year Anniversary

Our Story

On September 9, 2012, we celebrated our five year anniversary with five services and over two thousand people that call DC Metro their home. We love the story that God is writing and feel honored to be a part of this move of God called DC Metro Church. We are incredibly thankful for all that He has done in and through DC Metro as we reflect on His faithfulness in the past five years.

The Beginning…

In 1998, God planted a dream in David Stine’s heart to plant a life-giving, multicultural church in our nation’s capital that would be influential in building a God-first culture throughout the DC Metro area. For the next nine years, David and Taryn continued to pray and seek God’s timing over this dream, as David went to seminary and worked in full-time ministry to prepare for the call he knew God had on his life. In April of 2005, when Pastor David was on a doctoral retreat in the Shenandoah Valley, God shared with David that the church that he would plant would one day have seventeen locations all around the DC Metro area and three locations in New York City. Pastor David knew this was a God-sized vision and that it would only be accomplished through God's leadership and a united team of wholehearted, God-first individuals.
In the summer of 2007, David and Taryn knew the time had come, so they packed their bags and moved across the country to Alexandria, Virginia with seventeen individuals to embark upon the adventure of their lives. After participating in twenty local outreaches and conducting five vision nights, the seventeen grew to seventy-five individuals who said “yes” to investing their lives to plant a church whose vision would be to “build a God-first culture throughout the DC Metro area.” On September 9, 2007 DC Metro Church launched under the covering of the Association of Related Churches (www.arcchurches.com), and the dream that David and Taryn had been stewarding in prayer for the previous nine years became a reality.

Growing

DC Metro’s first service was held at the Regal Cinemas in the Potomac Yard Shopping Center and had approximately two hundred in attendance. In the first year, over 100 people committed their lives to God and that number continues to increase each year as more and more realize the wisdom of placing God first in their lives. In January 2009, DC Metro added a second service to accommodate the growth and in April 2010, we experienced another significant milestone in the life of DC Metro as we joyfully moved into our first permanent facility, 1100 N. Fayette Street, the current location.  In 2011 our weekend attendance doubled and in 2012 our attendance doubled again, so we added a third and fourth service to increase our capacity to be able to reach more people. This Easter 2013, we had over 3, 500 join us to celebrate Jesus' resurrection, the greatest event in all of human history (with 241 people committing their lives to the Lord on Easter Sunday- Go Jesus!)  but the spiritual health of the church continues to be our most important barometer when measuring growth. The lives that have been transformed as they have encountered the love of Jesus, the people that have found authentic community in one of the over 100 Metro Groups, and those in the community who have experienced God’s heart in a practical way are continual reminders to the leadership of DC Metro that this is a move of God much bigger than themselves that they have been called to steward.

Expanding

Beginning January 2013, DC Metro launched our first campus in Fairfax, Virginia to create an even greater capacity to be able to reach people in a real, relevant, and enjoyable environment. We are currently one church in two locations. (Alexandria Campus service times are: Sunday 9 am, 10:45 am, 12:30 pm, and 5:30 pm and Fairfax Campus service time is Sundays at 10 am). If you are unable to join us in person, we also have two online services on Sundays at 12:30 pm and 5:30 pm.

As we continue to expand our reach, we are so thankful for the increasing opportunities God is providing to share His love and the life-changing message of the gospel. The vision of DC Metro comes from the book of Nehemiah when the prophet Nehemiah was called back to rebuild the walls of his capital city of Jerusalem because the people there had turned from God. In a similar way, DC Metro Church feels called to restore a culture in our capital city where God is placed first again in the lives of the people. We exist to rebuild the spiritual walls of our nation’s capital and to continue to build a God-first culture throughout the DC Metro area. It is our vision to plant life-giving campuses all around the DC Metro area, as we humbly continue in this incredibly exciting mission that we believe God has entrusted to us.

Your Role in the Story

We would love for you to become a part of our story. We believe that God has a role for each of us to play in His story, which includes being planted in His House (Psalm 92:13 says those that plant themselves in God's House will flourish). There are a plethora of opportunities to get plugged into life and community at DC Metro, and the Connection Track is designed to help you find the best fit. You can hear more about the vision of DC Metro and how you can get involved at Intro Connection (the first step in our Connection Track), which is our Guest Reception immediately following each service. We believe God has a call on your life to impact His kingdom, and we would love to walk together as we seek to build a God-first culture throughout the DC Metro area.
